My favorite activity was the maze. The beginning of The Maze was fun because, that was when we had to figure out the path. Once we figured out the path Matthew directed everyone because he memorized the path. After that other people stepped up and helped directing people. Hog Call was fun too. During Hog Call Mrs. Lopez put words on our backs and we had to find our pare without talking. That was tricky but then we figured out a strategy. Our strategy was Kali matches people while everyone stands in a line. This worked well  but the words were hard to match. The other one was The Marble Challenge. This challenge was hard because we had to put a marble in a cup across the room. We could only make it travel with gravity and in small tubes. My group did not complete it.

Daily Life – Food and Drink

Planting

  • Planting was done with two people.
  • One would scatter wheat or barely and the other would follow behind with a cattle drawing a plow.
  • 90 percent of ancient Egypt’s time was put into farming.

Harvesting

  • Crops were harvested in the summer using wood sickles (metal blades with short wooden handles).
  • Usually the whole family would help with the harvesting.
  • Donkeys carried the grains to granaries.
  • At the granaries they would sell or store the grains.

Religious beliefs and Economics impacts food

  • They did not eat fish because they believed that the water of the Nile had a lot of bacteria. Also their religious beliefs told them that fish were not to be eaten.
  • Some Egyptians ate fish and they were still healthy.
  • The Egyptian symbol of food was a picture of beer and bread.
  • Wealthy Egyptians drink wine instead of beer because wine was from the Nile delta.
  • People in the lower class ate simple meals, but then in the upper class people had a wide selection of different things to eat.

Drinks

  • Beer was essential because it could be stored for a while. They did not drink much of the water from the Nile, because it had bacteria.
  • Since the water from the Nile had to be boiled they just drank beer. Everyone drank beer including the children.

Hunting/ Cattle

  • They raised cattle, such as camels and cows. They hunted geese, ducks, cranes, and other wildfowl. It was easy to capture and kill cranes during the flooding season because they came for the fish in the Nile.

Types of Crops they grew and traded

  • The two most important crops were wheat and barley, which were used to produce beer and bread.
  • Some common vegetables were onions, radishes, peas, beans, cucumbers, and lettuce.
  • They also had apples, olives, and pomegranate trees.
  • They were brought to Egypt during the reign of Hyksos or later. Since olives did not grow well in the Egyptian climate they were mostly traded for.
  • Most fruit were dried so that it was able to be preserved.

Seedfolks

My favorite character is Leona right now. She is my favorite character because she stands up for herself. When she was calling all these people to try and get the trash out of the lot. She realized that she had to see them in person. She went to the town hall and talked to the women at the front desk. She realized that they were taking her like she was ling. Then she opened one of the bags from the vacant lot. Then she got to talk to someone right away. I really like that she did that to get everyone’s attention. I also like how she cared so much about the lot but she does not even own it. I think I would also try hard to get the lot cleaned, because I would realize that the people need more space to plant, plants.

Why I Want to Visit California

california

I would like to visit California, because of the amazing views of the Ocean. Also I was born in San Diego California. California also has really nice beaches, although sometimes the water is cold. Last time my Family and I went to California we rented bikes and got to ride the bikes on the beach. Also when I go to California I get to meet a lot of my parent’s friends. In California there are many famous people too. The best of all California has nice weather all year around. I wish I could go to California at least once a year.
