Community and Friendship

I think that I was successful as a friend and as a team member because I helped other people out and I didn’t try to make people feel uncomfortable.

For the Marble Luge, I thought we were struggling at first because we kept doing the same strategy. Then we thought of a new strategy and it worked well. We were inches from completing the task, but we were unlucky and missed the cup. I think that I had continued the idea of Alex L.’s idea of chopsticks, but thought of an alternative. Now that think about it, I think there was a better way of completing the task, which was to put everyone behind the person with the marble, so it was easier to get in the cup.

For the Hog Call, I think we did very good. We figured out how to get the partners together fast, because people were helping each other. I think that we should have had 1 or 2 leaders instead of everyone being a leader because it would make things a lot faster. Though, we thought as a team and successfully completed the challenge. I was trying to help people know what there word was by referring to gestures and other words.

The Maze Challenge was probably the harder than the rest, but with the help  of Ms. Lund, we were able to complete the task faster and more efficiently. We did a line, instead of one by one. I think that we could have worked on everyone agreeing on a certain position instead of pointing at a square and never changing their mind. I think that I could have improved on helping people.

Overall, I think that the challenge required a lot of teamwork, but was most importantly: fun.

Seedfolks – Tío Juan

Tio Juan is my favorite character because the way he acts. He is different from most of them, mainly because he helps others garden. He is always trying to communicate to others. For an example, when Virgil’s father was frustrated that his lettuce was not growing, Tio Juan came over and showed them why. Tio Juan is emotionally attached to this garden because in Guatemala he had a garden. He knows so much about gardening, giving himself the power to help others, which he does.

Pingjiang

Pic shows: Tourist walk over this spectacular glass bridge.nnFollowing on from the success of the glass cliff pathway Chinese engineers have now come up with a glass suspension bridge.nnThe spectacular glass bridge is 180 metres above the ground in Pingjiang county in the province of Hunan in southern China, where it stretches between two rocky peaks for just over 300 metres.nnAnd unlike the cliffside glass bridge in Baoding, in Hebei province, the suspension bridge has the added terrifying factor that it actually moves in the wind.nnDespite the rigid glass sheets that form the base of the bridge, special rubber connections between the glass plates allow the bridge to move without the risk of breaking the glass.nnAnd the verdict of most users brave enough to try it out is that although completely safe, it is also completely terrifying.nnThe operators of the bridge even have staff specially trained to go along and help people to scared to continue to get up the courage to finish the journey.nnOne person who crossed the glass skywalk, Yun Ku, 23, said: "I was fine at first but by the time I was a third of the way across I was just weak at the knees. I had to go back when it started to move and needed a lot of coaxing from my boyfriend. I thought I was going just melt on the spot. My legs wouldn't work."nn(ends)n

Pingjiang

One place that I’d like to visit is a city in China called Pingjiang. My dad’s side of the family lives there. Some of my great grandparents live there, too. I’d like to pass the Pingjiang Glass Bridge that hangs in between too steep cliffs (above). In my dad’s hometown, there are farms and animals. It used to be that there were only older styled buildings, but now there are concrete buildings that are more modern. Though, the main reason why I to go to Pingjiang is to meet my family.
