Snowflake Ball by Sophie Munyon

On January 26th, with help from the Raleigh Parks and Recs Inclusion department, the infamous Snowflake Ball marked its second year back! At the dance, there were snacks, refreshments, and even a red carpet! The night was filled with fun and was a great way for Cary Academy to give back to the community.

Raleigh Parks strives to provide inclusion and medical support to individuals with disabilities or medical conditions across the triangle. Raleigh Parks is known for welcoming the community with open arms. This group offers specialized recreation services to people of all ages.

The Ball was hosted in the Dining Hall, adorned with sparkly decorations and snowflakes everywhere. Volunteer shifts started as early as 3:30 to start setting up. In the first shift, it was the students’ jobs to clear the dining hall and place Christmas lights all around. Students split off into groups to get the job done. Some students focused on the lights, while others created posters for the entryway. There was tinsel, dangling snowflakes, and streamers highlighting every inch of the Dining Hall. It was important that all guests felt welcome and were greeted with excitement. A red carpet was implemented, so guests could feel like movie stars! The dining hall was converted into CA’s own ballroom!

Once the dance was set up, new groups of volunteers started to pour in to help greet guests and work the refreshments booth. There was an array of snacks including lemonade, chips, and even homemade desserts. This was a great way to allow guests to relax and be able to have fun off the dance floor too. When students were not working the booth, they could dance with the guests. Students as well as guests had fun. The Snowflake Ball was a success and will return for years to come!
