Cary Academy’s fall athletes have been hard at work since the beginning of August. Though practices began a mere twelve weeks ago, the regular season is already beginning to wind down. The results show that it has indeed been a good season so far for Charger athletes.
The Varsity Field Hockey team wrapped up their conference season on October 9th, with a triple overtime win vs. Durham Academy, and three-peated as TISAC conference champions. Ending their season with a 12-4 record, the girls started their NCISAA Field Hockey championship run with a win in their first game on Tuesday, October 16th, and are headed to quarterfinals. Best of luck, ladies!
Though their second and third best players graduated last year, the Varsity Girls Golf Team has come back stronger than ever. With an 8-2 record, the Girls Golf Team has had a strong season, to say the least, beating all teams in the TISAC conference at some point in the season. They started the post season with a runners-up finish at the TISAC Conference Tournament, narrowly losing to Ravenscroft. “We’ve had a great season, and we’ve beat every team in our conference at least once,” said Cate Pitterle, a member of the team. The Charger girls golf team will send two players, Erin Singleton (’20) and Cate Pitterle (’20) to Pinehurst for the NCISAA state event on October 22nd and 23rd.
The Varsity Volleyball team has also had a solid season, adding up to a 10-9 record overall. This record includes two notable 3-0 wins versus Ravenscroft and many other victories against Wake Christian, Carolina Day, Greensboro Day, St. Mary’s school, and St. David’s school.
Even though it has been a tough season for the Varsity Boys Soccer team, the boys still have plenty to be proud of. Important wins to note include a 3-0 win versus Grace Christian and a whopping 9-0 victory over Southern Wake Academy.
Varsity Girl’s Tennis has been very successful this year. Even after their number-one player graduated, the girls have been able to keep playing well. “Even though we pretty much had a brand new team this year, I felt like everybody really bonded, and it was definitely one of the best seasons I’ve had so far,” said Lauren Hsu (’20). Notable wins for the Girls Tennis Team include four TISAC victories versus NRCA and St. Mary’s, beating the two schools on home and away advantages. Other wins to note include 9-0 victories versus Wake Christian and Grace Christian and a strong showing in the annual tournament in Florence, SC. The Charger Girls Tennis Team are taking their 9-10 record to the NCISAA tournament. Good luck in the post season, ladies!
The Varsity Girls and Boys Cross Country teams have had a great season, as well. The Girls team came in third place out of twenty or more teams at the annual Greensboro Invitational, where Thuc Dzu, Lia Lathan, and Keely Murphy were individually honored for placing twelfth, eighteenth, and twentieth respectively. The Boys team placed sixth at the same meet; Kenny Eheman and Luke Johnson were also individually honored for placing twelfth and nineteenth respectively. The teams will head to Wake Med Soccer Park on October 18th to compete in the conference meet, and will compete in the state meet on October 26th in Hendersonville, NC. Best of luck to the Cross Country teams in the post season!
