STAR stands for Students Together Assisting Refugees and is a national organization that focuses on helping refugees across the United States and the world. This past year, Cary Academy has become a club branch for STAR.
After the continuation of the Afghan refugee crisis, there was an influx of 1,200 Afghan refugees in North Carolina during the summer of 2021. It became increasingly prevalent to support this community as a school.
STAR’s goal is to raise awareness about the refugee crisis while working with local and global refugee organizations to make refugees feel welcome in the community. Through working with local refugees, this club hopes to make positive contributions to the lives of refugees.
