The playoffs came to a close in our final morning and two teams won championships. Not quite as majestic as hoisting a Larry O’Brien- William’s Honolulu Riptide was able to hoist a much smaller, much less gold, much less majestic trophy after winning the dice tournament with two down-to-the-wire victories, first against KeShawn’s Los Angeles Diverse with a final score of 14-13 after Kevin Durant missed the game-tying free throw with an unfortunate final dice roll in the conference finals and then second against Rushabh’s Carolina Chaos with a final score of 30-29 after storming back with a fourth-quarter comeback in the championship game. As I’m sure William would attest to, the dice were certainly falling his way today. KeShawn’s Los Angeles Diverse was crowned DT champions in the 2K bracket after defeating Chance’s Miami Maniacs in the championship game with a score of 48-38. As his team and he himself proudly proclaimed, love will win.

Our final afternoon was dedicated to the art of tailgating. Educated with the history and key attributes and equipped with tents and a grill, the DT set out to have a tailgate of their own. The GMs turned designers turned coaches were now back to full-time fans who ate food and played games fit for a tailgate such as hamburgers, hot dogs, fried chicken and cornhole, spikeball, ladder golf all the while enjoying the shade from a tent and music from a speaker.

The day and the DT concluded with an awards ceremony where trophies were given to the team/coach who won the dice tournament, Honolulu Riptide/William, the 2K tournament, LA Diverse/KeShawn, the team with the most sales, LA Diverse/KeShawn, the team with the best promo nights, Annual Philly Cheesesteak Eating Competition for Courtside Tickets/Philadelphia Cheesesteaks/Connor and Play the Players Night/Honolulu Riptide/William, and finally the most prized trophy of the DT- Executive of the DT. EOTDT was given to the GM who created the most impressive roster through the draft and free agency and was decided upon by a point system and a panel of ten esteemed voters. The New York Nightcrawlers and GM Derek was named the Executive of the Year.
