This morning, we watched videos, played a Kahoot, and researched recipes. First, we watched a Mythbusters video where people tested the effects of creamed vs. normal butter, chocolate chips vs. chunks vs. wafers, white sugar vs. brown sugar, and frozen vs. room temperature dough on chocolate chip cookies. We also learned about the science behind cookie recipes and what factors lend to a cookie being chewy, cakey, or crunchy. After that, we played a Kahoot about basic baking fun facts. Then, we split into teams and decided on chocolate chip cookie recipes to bake this afternoon. Once that had been decided, we watched some videos about strawberries to prep for our strawberry-centric baking day on Thursday. We learned about the origins of strawberries and what kinds of pastries they pair well with. Finally, we decided on specific recipes to complete and went to lunch. We’re very excited to start baking and tasting!
