Today the Empowering Women D.T had an awesome day! The day was focused on examining the presence of women in various professions throughout history. First, the D.T went to the North Carolina Museum of History, where we visited various exhibits displaying the history of North Carolina, some of North Carolina’s participants in different wars, and got a sneak peak at the new Pauli Murray exhibit. The group did discuss that unfortunately, women are often much less present in history, which means that often, it was semi-difficult to find female figures amongst the men at the museum, but we still celebrated those we were successful in.
After the museum, the group walked over to Budacai, a female owned and operated restaurant in downtown Raleigh. The restaurant featured various Asian cuisine and was quite delicious! Once we arrived back at CA, we all began working on a project with the primary mission to convey what we personally think about when we hear the words or phrases “Feminism” and “Women’s Rights.” The project was intentionally designed to be very open, so each participant printed out different photos, cut out different pieces out of magazines, or drew to create a piece that illustrated in some manner their thoughts. We look forward to presenting these projects tomorrow!
