To paint, we had to invert the normal process of painting. This unique approach made me focus more on what made up the painting and individual aspects rather than trying to go at it whole. The fact that we couldn’t erase only made things more interesting. There were many things I would’ve changed if I could have during the process but now I think it just adds intrigue and something different from the painting I used as inspiration. Even though I ended up with this little, somewhat-flawed frog, I think he shows the trial and error (and the successes) of my first attempt at glass painting. – Milena C.

On day two of experiencing Art, we made glass painting! We started by comparing how you would typically paint an image on paper compared to the glass. I found it very interesting how you must flip your work since you will be viewing it completely differnet! Typically, you would start with the background and work your way up to the details of the piece, but not today. I started by doing all small details and highlights, than building up to more layers and finally the main color and background. My painting is of my dog Trooper and I really enjoyed being able to use my creativity to mix the colors to match him (as we only used primary colors) and also create a look of textures. Patience was needed here as rushing would spear the paint but I am glad with how my work turned out today! – Alana W.

Today we did glass painting, which is basically just painting in reverse – from top layer to bottom layer. I chose a very complicated movie scene of a woman sitting by a window (baaaad choice). It was tough to define shadows and light, and everything sort of meshed together at some point. If I could redo it, I would probably take a bit to plan out what I would paint first. Even thought it was a challenge, it was really fun! – Avani B.

Painting on glass was really fun to do because it is something I have always wanted to try but have never been able to do before. But I quickly realized it was not going to be as easy as I originally thought. Having to find a way to paint that would show how streaky my brush strokes were and how I went out of the lines was difficult. But along the way I accepted it would be difficult and I worked through it. It was a little stressful but nice to be able to sit down and work in something for a while. I painted Winnie the Pooh and it was adorable it was also really cool to see how everyone else’s turned out. – Maria S.
