As another winter season comes to a close, the Charger community reflects on the achievements and unforgettable moments that have defined this year’s sports. Each team has left an evident mark on the spirit of our school.
The Indoor Track & Field season proved to be yet another triumph for the Charger athletes, with remarkable achievements for both the boys and girls teams. Clinching conference championships, the boys secured an impressive 2nd place finish at the state level, while the girls secured a commendable 3rd place. Among the highlights were the great performances of 11 All-State athletes and many records broken.
Meanwhile, the Charger swim team continued their dominance with the girls claiming their 10th consecutive conference championship title. The boys’ team also made a strong showing, securing 2nd place at the conference. Notably, two girls’ relay teams broke the conference meet records. At the state level, both the girls’ and boys’ squads showcased their talent, with the girls finishing as runners-up and the Charger boys securing 4th place overall. Junior swimmer Meredith Fultz comments, “It was such a great season! I loved being able to swim with such great people. It was also fun to be able to celebrate our amazing seniors & incredible achievements with well-deserved awards at the end-of-season banquet. Go Chargers!”
The Charger cheer team brought an unmatched level of school pride and spirit throughout the season. Their unwavering support and energetic cheers hyped up every home basketball game, rallying the student section and providing encouragement to all the players.
In addition, the Charger basketball teams showcased their talent and determination throughout the season. The girls’ basketball team displayed remarkable teamwork and skill on the court, with their tenacity and resilience evident in every game. One standout moment was the gutsy win they pulled out against Covenant Day.
Similarly, the boys’ basketball team secured impressive wins over tough opponents this season. Notable victories included a thrilling overtime win against Charlotte Country Day and another hard-fought victory over Ravenscroft.
This year, our wrestling team has reached new heights, boasting a roster of 21 talented wrestlers, including seven middle school students and 12 upper school students. A significant milestone for our team is the inclusion of our first two female wrestlers, Lucy Heinz (’29) and Abby Neblett (’30), marking a historic moment as the NCISAA allows girls to compete in the conference for the first time. Throughout the season, our wrestlers have demonstrated remarkable skill and determination, engaging in intense matchups against formidable opponents in both duals and tournaments. Their hard work and dedication have paid off with thrilling victories, such as the nail-biting 39-36 win against Calvary Baptist Day School and the hard-fought 39-30 triumph over Cary Christian School.
