While perusing the gallery, I noticed an interesting trend: van Gogh drew less people after his visit to the mental hospital. I wonder why.


The interactive aspect of the experience let me see Van Gogh in a whole new light. I was able to briefly see objects like they were in his perspective.
I feel like I actually learned a lot about Van Goghe today. His inspiration from Japanese paintings was something I didn’t know about previously and it was really interesting to see how this impacted his paintings 
Unfortunately the art museum was closed for the Modern European artists exhibit in a few weeks. However, we did get to see a few sculptures outside and some works inside before leaving.
We visited the Van Gogh museum and got to learn a lot about his history behind his paintings and his life. For example, he lost his ear after a fight with his roommate Gaugin. Reading about this part, we wondered if he and Gaugin were in a relationship.

immersive unit, and my favorite thing we learned was how Van Gogh used sunflowers as a representation of the life cycle hence why they were a main subject for many paintings.
To start our morning we gathered in the library to listen to Ivy’s summary of the 1980’s Memphis art style and viewed different works of tragic events. It was interesting to see the lack of diversity (at the corporate companies) mixed with the apathetic bright colors to create a stale but commercial 80’s timeline.
