After climbing, we watched the Free Solo documentary, a documentary about Alex Honnold’s climb up El Capitan. After watching the documentary, we discussed the ethics of representing such a dangerous act. On the one hand, it showed that with a determined mindset, you can do anything. However, it also glorified the act of free soloing, which is very dangerous.

Watching Free Solo
After climbing we watched Free Solo and reflected about how Alex Honnold’s experences could be applied to our lives. The idea of working towards a goal and accomplishing it is something that we can all apply in the things we do.

Rock Climbing
I have not been rocking climbing in a very long time, so this was a fun experence climbing again. It was fun to experiment with different techniques and push myself while climbing.
Rock Climbing
This morning we went to the Triangle Rock Club Gym. I hadn’t been climbing in a while, so this was definitely a challenge. On the specific course that can be seen below, I was having to use the leverage of my arms to put my feet in another place. Reflecting on this experience later, I realize how I really pushed my limits as a climber and thinker. Although it may not seem like it does, rock climbing takes a lot of thinking and analysis!

Students explore rock climbing, bouldering and belay climbing.
Pushing Beyond Our Limits
Alexander writes: “We will visit the rock climbing gym in the morning and reflect on our experiences in the afternoon. Question: how does pushing your limits during rock climbing help you understand yourself better? How can the act of challenging yourself be applied in the classroom?”
