Thrifting!

Today we learned about the sheer variety of goods at thrift stores. I was shocked to see just how many things can be repurposed for a greater good.

I picked up this cookbook, detailing how to hide fruits and vegetables in meals. I thought the title was comical and showed how old and outdated some things at thrift stores are.

Enjoying the Finished Products

After the loaves, muffins, and pies had finished baking, we sampled the finished goods. We tried a little bit of everything, ranging from the different shaped breads to a variation of a traditional Guatemalan pumpkin recipe. We reflected on how fulfilling it was to eat these desserts knowing they were made sustainably.

Making Pie Crust

Before making the pie crust in the picture above, we worked with the pumpkins, using every part of them. We roasted the seeds and ate them as a snack, pureed the flesh to use in the pumpkin bread, and composted the skin. Using every part of the pumpkin and leaving no waste taught us to be more sustainable in our everyday lives.

Personality Test + Escape Room

In the morning, we individually took personality tests to determine our personality type. The quiz revealed I was a turbulent entrepreneur, meaning I always have an impact on my immediate surroundings. I am bold, rational, practical, original, perceptive, direct, and sociable but I am also insensitive, impatient, risk-prone, unstructured, and defiant. In addition, I might miss the bigger picture.

In the escape room, the group used our newly-acquired knowledge of our strengths and weaknesses to successfully flee Sir Walter’s speakeasy with fifteen minutes to spare. I used my leadership skills to help out but stepped back when it came to big-picture ideas.
