Waking up late is always the best way to start our first weekend with our students in Pilar. Staying up till 2am the night before definitely warrants sleeping in till 11am. Because of my late start, eating started with lunch. I ate lunch with my host family at a local restaurant called Kansas, featuring multiple options. I had salmon pasta with cream sauce, which was very good. I practiced my Spanish while talking about rugby, American football, and the local economic status of Argentina. Interestingly, when we got to the restaurant it was not busy, but as we left there was people everywhere waiting for a table.
After lunch me and my student, Agos, watched friends while I tried dulce de leche, cubanitos, and Alfojores. We then went to visit with Layne and her exchange student while eating more candy. Unlike the United States, most neighborhoods are guarded by a security gate and detail. For this neighborhood, an extensive search took place before we could enter, taking close to 10 minutes. More students joined us at their house while we watched the final game in the champions league of soccer. Real Madrid took home the trophy while we ate more candy and ham sandwiches. We talked about the game as well as words that they couldn’t say. We thought it was funny when our students said squirrel or George because they randomly add an ah sound.
I then went with Maia to her students house to get picked up by one of the past students we hosted in march. Before we were picked up, I meet this dog that was so small, but could jump to meet my face. We were then picked up and are going to meet our group of friends that we hosted. We are eating pizza and hanging out with all of our friends; we are excited to be spending the night with them and reconnecting.
