Below is an overview of primary software used at Cary Academy.
Outlook – Microsoft’s email, calendar, contact, task and notes application.
OneNote – Microsoft’s virtual 3-ring binder. Student’s have notebooks for each course and teachers can access students’ work, students and teachers can collaborate, and teachers can push out new pages of information as needed.
OneDrive – Microsoft’s cloud. This is where students’ files are located and can be accessed remotely from any device.
Word – Microsoft’s document and word processor.
Excel – Microsoft’s spreadsheet program. It is used to collect and manipulate data, create calculations and graph data.
PowerPoint – Microsoft’s presentation program that has the integration of video and other tools for high end presentation videos or slide shows.
Yammer – Microsoft’s version of social networking much like Facebook. Yammer is internal to Cary Academy and can be tracked by our IS department. This is a great program to learn appropriate use of social networking.
Sway – Microsoft’s version of a web based presentation tool whose files can viewed on any device.
Kahoot – an interactive game- based learning program that teachers and students can create and use
Quizlet – an interactive quiz program that students and teachers can use to create quizzes reviewing vocabulary. Pictures and verbal words can be used as part of the quizzes.
WordPress Blogs – Cary Academy uses WordPress as our blogging platform. Students and teachers can create blog posts sharing the latest information learned.
OfficeLens – A Microsoft app that allows users to take pictures and save them as pdfs, pictures, or other formats for later use. The files sync automatically in OneDrive so the user has immediate access to pictures or scans.
Nearpod – A platform that allows teachers to create interactive lesson plans that enable students to watch videos, read content, take quizzes and give automatic feedback to both students and teachers.
Padlet/Today’s Meet – two different backchannel programs in which students and teachers can write feedback that is shared with classes often as content is being presented or discussed.
Screencast-O-Matic – a free web-based video program that records a computer’s screen and audio creating screencasts.
