Day 1: Hannah

Today we had a super informative and interesting zoom with Dr. Zipkin and we discussed our goals and future professions for a while. Then she answered questions about schooling, degrees, psychology, pros and cons to the job etc….. Hearing about how psychology and general medicine pair together was very helpful and it was intresting to hear about her specific career path and how it was unlike a lot of peoples. We also talked about specialties within the medical field. Then we went to Dr. McLleven’s office and read/practiced presenting patients files/charts and gained a deeper understanding about why people visit him. He explained surgeries and introduced us to new vocabulary in the ENT field. He also showed us around his practice and showed us tools and machinery. Overall I learned a lot today!

North Carolina Symphony Performing Arts Management – Day 1

Friday, May 21st was the first day of my work experience with the North Carolina Symphony as a performing arts management intern. I began my day stuffing over 200 envelopes with letters and other documents that were personalized to donors to request further donations. What was so interesting about this was that I started to remember some of the names of the people these envelopes were addressed to. And later on in the day, I went to Meymandi Concert Hall to greet donors and guests prior to the concert as part of the marketing team (working to create an amazing experience for the audience members before they even step into the hall so that they will want to come back). And I was meeting and greeting people, I quickly realized how many names I recognized from the envelopes, which clearly shows how all the work reaching out to community members really goes a long way and truly impacts the success of the symphony.

This image shows all the envelopes I stuffed (the addresses are hidden)- I stuffed over 200.

Day 9!

Today was an exciting morning! I started the day by FINALLY finishing entering all the information from the “Enter to Win” slips into the Excel. When I was done, it was time for the pizza party! They had a pizza party to celebrate National Intern Day (a day early). After that was over, I was introduced to a machine that made the little girl inside of me who wanted to work in the post office very happy!!! I spent the rest of the day using this machine (which stamps envelopes and closes them). Look at how many I did!

Day 6!!!!!!

Today I worked Summerfest. Summerfest is a concert series that happens every summer and is sponsored by the NC Symphony. Usually the orchestra plays, but this time it was beach music. Beach music is a genre I had never heard of before but it was interesting. My responsibilities included setting up the marketing booth, picking out who won the contest for “Picnic of the Week”, drawing the winner for  “Enter to Win”, etc. It was an awesome experience!
