(Videos of my final projects above)

I started the day finished with both of my projects but I wanted to have better lighting because I realized there was an issue with the lighting where if you look at the sky for a while it gets very bright. Mr. Polge was able to find the problem which was the eye adaptation setting. My issue was resolved when I turned it off. I then made small changes to make the game more fun to play and easier than I was finished. I enjoyed the process of creating my audio visualizers and the game a made using them. I’m planning to work more on the projects at home/start some new ones.

Day 3 – Base Sketches

For today my game plan was to be finish the the base sketches of the major movements of the animation. The sketches took the majority of the day as I struggled with posing and sketching the ideas of the scenes. I also wanted to use perspective on the scenes where the character is in their bedroom which posed a further difficulty for me. I was unable to finish all of them and I talked with Mr. Stamer to figure out what I may be able to do to finish it up.

6/3

Today we sat down and reflected on our experience together with Vascular Wellness. From the clinical nurse shadowings to the marketing emails we created, we all learned and had so much fun as a team. This was such a good learning experience and we learned so much as a team and got to know our way around a small businesses. We were exposed to so many different aspects of the company and we had a lot of fun!

Final Day: Pitch Presentation

For the final day of the Cisco WEP, we presented our pitches to a panelist of various Cisco employees, including the leader for Systems Engineers in the region. No winner was declared, but it seemed like the employees were very impressed with everybody’s presentation: there were multiple times that people said these presentations are better than what people they work with make.

I appreciate the work that Tracy did to put this project together, as everything that we learned showed up today: almost every single Cisco architecture that we learned about was discussed today.

Day 7: Diagnosing Mysteries!

As an activity for the group, Dr. Parekh showed us different cases that we had to decipher using the data provided. While definitely a very complicated task, we got to see interesting charts and pictures that a pathologist would view on an everyday basis! The image above shows a slice of the appendix and was used to diagnose appendicitis. Thank you for the fascinating lesson Dr. Parekh!

Day 7: Doctor-Patient Relationship

In the Fischer clinic, we learned about the importance of personalized primary care and the loss of this personalized care in the medical industry. Doctors today are expected to churn through patients as quickly as possible, diagnosing then moving on; however, Dr. Fischer finds that returning to a focus on the doctor-patient relationship (as was more common a few decades ago) is much more fulfilling for the doctor and patient. He hopes that future doctors will find the proper balance and bring back this more traditional doctoring style (and we certainly hope we can find this balance too!). Thank you for opening our eyes to the differing styles of doctoring!

Day 7: Visiting the General Assembly

Today was the final day of our WEP but definitely the best day yet. Travis, Gabriella, and I got the opportunity to visit the General Assembly to sit in on a Senate Judiciary meeting and meet with Ms. Jennifer Bedford from legislative analysis. Unfortunately, they didn’t end up discussing SB300 (the bill we’d been researching for the past week); however, at the last minute they added a highly contentious abortion related bill that made the meeting much more interesting, and last a significantly longer time.

After the Senate meeting, we got to sit down  and talk with Ms. Bedford, who told us all about her work as an impartial essentially know it all at the general assembly. DUring the senate meeting, she would continually be called on by senators to ask what legal precedent exists on laws they were changing and she had to be on her game at all times. It was a really cool experience and I’m so glad that we got the opportunity to do something in person.

Day 8: The Last Day

Today there wasn’t much to do but I got to the legislative building an hour early to see Representative Harris in committee. Unfortunately, the committee lasted only 5 minutes which was a slight bummer. Today there wasn’t much to do but prepare for the session later in the day. So we looked at articles regarding unemployment insurance and why it isn’t bad and compiled that information. We also worked on Representative Harris’s newsletter for his constituents and I was in charge of writing fun facts about Governor Roy Cooper’s budget.  Then I observed the session virtually but in the office and it was time to go. I was quite sad that it was my last day because I had so much fun over the last two weeks. I hope to be back at the legislative building someday.

Day 7: Budgetary Fun

Today I walked into the office excited and not knowing what assignment was going to come my way. When I got there, Samantha told me that my assignment would be to write a report regarding the Non-Recurring Funds that the state would not spend if a budget wasn’t passed this summer. Just for context, Non-Recurring funds in a budget are just one-time allocations for an annual budget. If a budget doesn’t pass one year, the state defaults to the budget we have now but without spending on any of the “non-recurring funds”. My job was to go through this giant book which had all the ways the government was allocating money and look for “NR” which meant Non-Recurring fund.

Here is my giant book

When I just about started, Andrew came over and we sat at a table outside of Representative Harris’s office. He suggested that I use excel to store all the data for Non- Recurring Funds. To further help me out, he offered to be my scribe as I looked for non-recurring funds in the budget.

Andrew being my scribe.

Day 6: Back to Work

The last time I was in a legislative building was Wednesday afternoon and today it is Tuesday. This was because Representative Harris wasn’t in the office on Thursday and the Legislature works from home on Fridays and Mondays. Today I presented my research regarding the American Rescue Plan and Taxes/GDP in North Carolina to Representative Harris and Samantha. They were happy with my presentation but one more piece of information was needed to prove Republicans wrong regarding corporate taxes. I had to prove that the economic growth of North Carolina was significantly slower than other states in the Southeast proving that corporate taxes make no difference. After a long while, I was able to find the information on the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Later that day I got the opportunity to explore the building and I came across this wonderful view on the second floor of the building.
