This morning we ran to the train station. It was a pretty normal morning, as I had my usual bread with confitures & orange juice, but Aurianne was running late as we usually tend to do, so she didn’t have breakfast. As we were speedily running the race of our lives against time, Aurianne realized she was lacking in energy due to not having breakfast, so she reached into her longchamp, pulled out a packet of sugar previously taken from a cafe, & proceeded to dump the whole thing in her mouth while simultaneously running. We finally reached the train station on time, but it was a challenge as we only had half the amount of time we needed to get there. Once we arrived at school, we split up into groups. My group first learned about the Renaissance, where I had an epiphany. I realized that Renaissance, from a French perspective, could be looked at as re-naissance and hence, the word alludes to the re-birth, so to speak, and the innovation of that time period in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. After that, we proceeded to go outside to take a short break and bask in the sun while we could. When it was time for us to switch teachers, we climbed the treacherous three flights of stairs that proved to be a challenge for some to get to a classroom where we played French cranium. In that game, you chose a card and then had to either hum a song and have your partner recognize it, draw something with either your eyes open or closed and have your partner guess what it is, answer a political or logical question, or spell out a vocabulary word out loud or choose the correct definition of a word. Once the final winner was determined, we exited through the door and down the stairs to go to lunch. After lunch, there was a group of ten people who took a “cooking class” with Stephane, the Chef Sam of France, where we made chouquettes. They’re a traditional French pastry consisting of water, butter, flour, sugar, salt, eggs, and more sugar on top. We made maybe a couple hundred, which everyone then ate afterwards, including the people in the other group who went to see a movie while we baked. After that, we all left the school and went our separate ways.
