The French Exchange trip for 2015 started off with an adventurous flight from Raleigh to Detroit, and from there we flew to Paris. On the first night, I did not do much with my family because I was really tired from the overnight journey. My exchange student’s Dad made a delicious first meal consisting of bagels filled with different cheeses, bread (baguette), and delicious chicken. Thankfully the day after was considered a holiday in France and I did not have to go to school that day! My exchange family was nice to let me sleep in until 10:00 am, and they made me a small breakfast before going out. The first thing I got to do that day was eat at a meat restaurant with my family. I got to taste the difference between the French Fries in the United States and the ones in France. I would say the difference is quite a big one too, for the French cook their fries differently so they aren’t as greasy. I also got to try a béarnaise sauce which is a great sauce to use when eating meat like steak to give it more flavor. The first thing my family did with me is they took me on a tour of le vieux Tours (the old district of Tours). In the district, I got to see these beautiful streets and buildings like the one with the red umbrella. The streets and history behind this area was unprecedented such as the Roman ruins seen in the picture with the beige household. After all the walking and touring, my family treated me to some delicious ice cream, and then it was time to meet up with others at the mall so we could go to the movies as a group. We saw more exchange students after the movie and once again returned to the mall to hang out. Then it was time to head to another host’s house for dinner with their exchange student. Not only was it a great night hanging out with friends, but it was a night for trying different food as well. The host family was so nice because they made chicken nuggets, but they also made some different food as well. Some different things that I had the opportunity to try consisted of salmon and cheese wrapped in s croissant, ham and cheese wrapped in a croissant, and different cheeses wrapped in a croissant. To finish off the night was crème brûlée and caramel delight mini desserts, and a stunning view of the street right outside of the family’s house. Overall it was a great start to the exchange trip, and I can’t wait to see what else there is to come!
