We will have traditional book club elements of reading time, sharing and discussions; but we’re also going to turn it up a notch so we can share and display our bibliophilism. That’s where the nooks and the looks come in. We will create book nooks to depict a scene or plot from a book, using a variety of materials, including the option to custom make pieces using the laser cutter. Next, we’ll research how artists use books and/or book pages to create inventive art. Finally, we will create our own piece (either collectively or individually) inspired by the work we find during our research. We’ll likely go off campus to see examples and acquire materials or to enjoy reading outdoors. This is a course that combines reading and making–come enjoy both!
