On Wednesday, we started the morning off in the garden behind the CMS, cutting back sunflowers that had crowded out other plants and planting volunteer tomato plants. Then, we went to Eno River Farm in Hillsborough to pick fresh strawberries. The farm was a bigger, commercial operation, and we saw large hoop houses and compared how they watered their fields to some of the smaller-scale farms we have seen. We also tried their blueberries because the season has just started! Then we enjoyed some fresh strawberry ice cream in the shade. For lunch, we went to Farmside Kitchen, where we had their signature Farmbowls filled with local produce. They partner with farms like Scott Farms, Wise Farms, Hines Family Farm, and others to source their ingredients so that they stay committed to local and farm-to-table.
