Today, the Women’s Empowerment Discovery Term spent their time in Charlotte. After a 2.5 hour bus ride (full of naps) we got a short tour of the South Side of the city through the numerous murals. Most expressed the history of the city starting with Queen Charlotte of Great Britain (whom the city was named after) to an ode to Catawba Indians who lived on the land prior to European settlement, and then finally pieces connecting to the several gold mines used early on in the cities time. Other murals brought up themes of working together, peoples ancestry, and nature. We followed our walk, with lunch at Optimist Food Hall. Enjoying dumplings and noodles from a women owned restaurant called The Dumpling Lady. Once full, we visited the Mint Museum and looked through its multiple unique art galleries, full of sculptures, paintings, weavings, and more. All types of mediums were used throughout the museum to create distinctive pieces of art that expressed emotion and experiences. Once finished, we made our way back to CA, taking more naps and playing more games throughout the bus ride!
