The experiencing art discovery term started the rain Friday morning by going to North Carolina Museum of Art! I really enjoyed seeing all of the art work and reading more in depth about the stories behind each one. Seeing other works with the insight of what was going thru their mind or others analysis of the piece helps me to create large take away’ s from what I am viewing. I also notice lots of oil paintings which I connect to the time period most of the pieces were from. Comparing work between artist I was able to see many styles and techniques that I can use to apply to my own art journey. One of my favorite pieces from the museum was Weather Side by Andrew Wyeth (1965), I enjoyed this so much because at first glace it seems like just a simply house, yet taking a closer look you can see more detail like the bed sheets stuffed in the window. Also reading more about the painting, I discovered the reason for the house being painted at such a low angle was in contribute to the girl who lived there having polio and was unable to walk. – Alana W.
the day started with a rainy bus ride to the NCMA and after being denied illegal bike rides, we entered the museum where the art ranged from colorful squares to traditional oil portraits. it was so interesting to see the wide variety of art but the thing that stuck with me the most was the ticketed exhibit with pieces portraying the fragile relationship between humans and the environment. art of all different mediums conveyed the effect of trash on animals, nature and more. my personal favorite was giant bags of netted trash hanging from the ceiling of a room. – Renee Z.
