Hey there!
Mega Minds checking in. This morning we watched the 2016 biographical drama Brains on Fire. The movie stars Chloe Grace Moretz as Susannah Cahalan, now a 37-year-old reporter for the New York Post.
The movie follows Cahalan’s journey more than a decade earlier where she suffered from anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis a highly rare brain illness. At the time, the illness was largely unknown, and doctors had a hard time diagnosing and treating the disease. Her journey through developing symptoms and being treated was written about in Cahalan’s memoir on the same name. The movie dramatizes these events, and narratives this moving story while giving as much tangible insight into Calahan’s emotions as possible.
Following the movie, we had a group discussion about the movie, Topics likes flaws in modern medicine, perspective, and general questions and resolutions about the brain were explored and powerful insights were mentioned.
Until next time
