During the fourth day of Step Into South Asia DT, we dove deep into Pakistani culture and the associated religion of Islam. In the morning, we started with an interesting presentation about Pakistan, with topics ranging from its geography to its culture, to funny pictures of Hamza’s trip from a few months back. After the presentation on Pakistan, we proceeded to go to a Mediterranean restaurant called Neomonde, where we had the opportunity to feast on a plethora of delicious food items. After the restaurant, we headed over the Islamic Association of Raleigh (the main mosque in the area). At the mosque, we listened to a recitation of the Islamic holy book of the Quran as well as another presentation by students who go to school at the mosque. The children were so sweet! We also got to see the school gym and meet with a couple of the teachers, then we went on a detailed tour guided by some people from the mosque who showed us the school in depth, as well as the Quran memory area and the main prayer room. We listened to a detailed presentation on Islam, watched a video on famous Islamic science and technology, and also got to observe the schoolchildren at recess and in congregation for prayer. We also got to have some snacks as well! Overall, today was once again very enjoyable and we look forward to the second half of DT!!!
