Today we went to SEEDS, a community farm in Durham. We got a tour of the gardens, where we tasted raspberries, mulberries, and nectarines (which we thought were better than the ones from the store), and we saw the in-progress chicken coop. We were also able to compare the farming techniques that we saw at the SAS farm yesterday to the ones SEEDS uses, like succession farming, which is where plants are continually planted in the same bed to keep things active and growing. After our tour, we helped weed the garden beds, which was hot but satisfying! Lucky the rain held off today. After our hard work we had a delicious lunch at Fosters, where we had sandwiches made from fresh, local ingredients.
