The students kicked off Waterpalooza by participating in multiple team building activities to get to know each other and break the ice. We then drove 30 minutes to Jordan Lake where we were met by a Frog Hollow guide that gave us a run down of the history of the man-made lake.  Students then canoed over 3 miles in Jordan Lake to learn necessary watercraft skills that will be needed for the upcoming beach trip. These skills include rescuing a capsized canoe, getting back into a canoe, and other necessary water safety skills. Along the trip, students experienced the importance of water and how this man-made lake is home to a diverse ecosystem. For instance, Jordan lake is home to over 22 Bald Eagle nests and has many species of land and aquatic animals. Great Blue Herons, Osprey, Vultures, and 2 Bald Eagles were spotted!
