During our first day of Step Into Asia Discovery Term, we were able to dive right into Pakistani and Indian Culture with a quick game of ice breakers as a means of getting to know fellow DT members better. After exchaning our favorite ice cream flavors, things we are looking forward to, and other interesting facts of the sort, we listened to a presentation about snacks in both Pakistani and Indian culture. We then got to watch an epsiode about Indian Street Food and Culture by Padma Lakshimi, followed by a field trip to two different South As ian grocery stores/snack shops: Spices Hut and Patel Brothers. Each student had the opportunity to pick up a few delicious snacks and drinks. We then came back to school, had lunch, and then listened to a presentation on cultural focus Buddhism. We discussed numerous aspects of the Buddhist religion and had many fun and interesting conversations, then proceded to go on a “silent walk” to represent the silent and meditative practices of Buddhists. Finally, we returned to the classrom and had the opportunity to see and discuss many cool aspects with Mr. Velto regarding of foreign trips to areas related to Buddhism. Amazing start to Step Into South Asia Discovery Term and LOTS of more fun to come!!
