We started off our DT watching a fascinating space documentary covering everything from ancient folktales and the origins of the constellations to supernovas to super women in astronomy! Dr. Greenwolfe entertained us during long ad breaks with more tidbits about space. Then, we got out our telescope parts and and worked together to decipher the assembly instructions and got some practice putting together the telescope. We hoped to get the telescope outside behind the CMS to look at the sun (with a solar filter of course) but unfortunately it was a bit too cloudy. Maybe another time!
After lunch, we returned to our lab and took a walk down to the soon-to-be Cary Academy Observatory, and discussed what the plans were for this next big project. We ended the day by beginning to build the Motel-O-Scope that will shelter the telescope once it’s permanently moved outside.
