Today, we went to the US National Whitewater Center and almost died during the Whitewater Rafting! During the mandatory meeting about safety concerns, we doubted that any of it would apply to us because we never thought we’d end up being the group that fell out of the rafts but we were very wrong. After crashing into another raft, our whitewater raft flipped over and the six of us (Jiya, Tanya, Ella, Aditi, and Asha, and Mr. Bell) all ended up underwater with some people underneath the raft.
It was a confusing panic with the lifeguards throwing ropes, being pulled back into the boats, and losing three water shoes! Luckily, we remembered a few words from the safety orientation like: “Grab onto the rope” or “Spideman crawl underneath if you are trapped under the raft”. After we all got back onto the raft, scraped from the rocks and without all our shoes, we talked about how crazy and wild that experience was!
