You know the vibes; starting our day off right with a Lovecraft episode. Episode 7 in particular explored the suppression of Black women’s rights, creativity, and intelligence. It differed from the horror and Lovecraftian genre that most episodes take, and allows one of the main characters to explore herself and find who she wants to be (across genres). Many Black women during Jim Crow were supposed to “shrink” as Hippolyta (the starring character in this episode) and play the role as wife or mother, but never got to explore their passions or curiosities. When they break out of their shells, however, they shine just as bright as their male counterparts; Just look at prominent and successful Black women from these times such as Katherine Johnson, Dr. Phyllis Wallace, and Dr. Dolores Cooper Shockley.
