Today, in our Grease Monkeys Discovery Term, we might not have done a lot of activities, but we learned some important stuff. Our main focus was at an organization called Wheels for Hope, a place where donated cars are fixed by volunteers and mechanics, before being sent out to families that need them. We were split up into two groups. I have no clue what the other group was doing, but our group got to inspect a donated car, going through most of a 12 page checklist, consisting of checking the air pressure in tires, making sure windows work, seeing if the doors lock, checking for oil leaks and much more. By the way, we all were wearing earplugs because of the insanely loud noise of one of their mechanics using some sort of drill.
Here’s a picture of our guide showing us the spare tire in the car and helping us test its air pressure. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to take part in the last 2 pages of the inspection, as they were aspects where a test drive was needed. After returning to CA and eating lunch, we then competed in a driving simulator, trying to beat each other’s records for lap times. Overall, it was a pretty relaxing but informative day in Grease Monkeys.
