This morning, we participated in an Escape Room at Times Up!, with the general idea being to experience an escape room to get possible inspiration for our final projects. The backstory to our room was of the murder of a rich person. We had to solve a lock on the door before time ran our or we would all be charged with murder. The room itself was very well made, making the ten of us use our brains. There were candle weight triggers, secret codes, a black light, a safe that wouldn’t reset fast enough, and many other intricate clues. While these were all delights with lots of fun and laughter, the biggest laugh was how the room got “hacked”. Iain Paul managed to hack the room twice. Once was through a lock which required a number code, but was instead popped open by Iain through brute force. Another was through the tablet, which was supposed to give the lock code after putting in passwords, but instead gave the code after Iain found it through an old email sent by the room. The email did seem like a clue and at 12 minutes, we thought that we had beaten the room, but it turned out this was not the case.

Nevertheless, we were still given the chance and were able to beat the room the legitimate way, even though we technically already did. Needless to say, today gave us lots of fun and taught us a valuable lesson of making our future rooms “unhackable”.

P.S. Day 2 of recommending you to watch Ready Player One!
