Here are our reflections for Day 1 of DT! We will post new reflections every day, and keep you posted!

Mehitabel: My favorite activity today was our walk through Lake Johnson Park. It really impacted my social health and I enjoyed talking to new people and those who I know! It was quite humid, but being with my friends helped me forget about it. We went on a solid 3.8 mile walk and the scenery was beautiful! I’m so glad we went on this walk, it left me feeling peaceful.

Isabel: I really enjoyed how chill this dt was and each activity had something which was interesting. For example the walk was good for socializing and physical activity and the speaker and the exercises she had us do were really good for calming my mind. It left me feeling more relaxed. Also, the balance between outside exercises and indoor was really nice.

Asha: Our day started off with a walk at Lake Johnson Park, where we socialized with our friends and we’re able to get to know our dt-neighbors a bit more. We then ate lunch, and watched Inside Out, a movie about emotions. We followed up with a speaker who elaborated on the subject.

Aditi: I really enjoyed our day today and all of the activities that we did. We started with a nice, scenic walk around Lake Johnson and later watched a movie about our emotions. We then had a speaker come and talk to us about mindfulness and emotions, and it was overall a great day.

Tanya: This day was really enjoyable! The walk at Lake Johnson was fun and I really liked getting to know one another better. I especially enjoyed the speaker because she shared a lot of insight on mindfulness and practices to be more mindful and recognizing our emotions. All in all, I had a lot of fun!

Ella: I had a lot of fun in the morning during our hike. i felt very awake and refreshed after it, I also had the opportunity to get to know some people i hadn’t met before. We then went back to campus and watched a disney movie which really tugged at my heart strings. Finally, I throughly enjoyed our time with Catherine, our speaker, who gave up some good tips on how to handle stress.

Maggie: Today was very well-planned and the activities were both educational and relaxing. The walk around Lake Johnson was tiring but fun. We then headed back to campus, where we watched a creative movie about mental health and listened to a speaker. Through the movie and the speaker, I learned that is important to accept my feelings, negative or not.

Anna: Today was really fun! We started by taking a long walk around Lake Johnson. After the walk, we went back to CA and watched Inside Out. I’d already seen the movie, but I still enjoyed watching it again. We then heard from a speaker. She talked to us about mindfulness, which I found very interesting, because I didn’t know much about mindfulness before. I’m so excited for tomorrow!

Jiya: I really enjoyed today’s activities. Our walk around Lake Johnson was a great way to socialize and get our blood pumping in the morning. When we arrived to school, we watched Inside Out. It was a fun way to watch different emotion being portrayed in different circumstances. Lastly, a speaker came to visit and taught us about mindfulness and meditation. I learned about the how certain parts of the brain react and how I can practice to alleviate stress and anxiety.

Monica: I really enjoyed today’s activities. we started with a walk around lake johnson which helped me wake up in the morning. i felt very energized and great by the time we got back. we next watched inside out which definitely matched the vibe of this dt regarding mental health and emotions. finally, we had a speaker come who taught us how to be very mindful and ways to stay calm. we also got some strategies to use when stressed.
