Today, our DT headed out to Franklin County, NC to visit Alpaca Dreams, an alpaca farm run by a retired couple who fell in love with alpacas. We got the opportunity to feed carrots and seeds to llamas & alpacas and our group was curious about things such as the value and expense of alpaca fibers, the purpose of the Alpaca Dreas organization, and what a daily day of work looks like. We were amazed to see an alpaca get weighed and ended our visit by heading out to a gift shop filled with alpaca fiber-based goodies. Later on in the day, we had the same service animals that recently came in for the AP exams come in again for a visit and learned about service animals versus therapy animals from the dog owners as well as how their dogs became service animals and the process of that. Overall, we found in both sites that even though the public may only focus on the entertainment, there is always an underlying purpose or benefit to society beside that, tying back into the title of our DT.
