Our DT began day 2 by visiting SAS’ solar farm. Here, we got to see a solar farm with a couple of sheep and enjoyed speaking with a landscaper who previously was the owner of the sheep on the solar farm. She spoke on the growth of sheep, how they help to control vegetation in the farm, prevention of coyotes, rotation of panels in the farm, and where the idea of having a sheep farm came from. Later on in the day, we visited the Duke Lemur Center site, where we talked about the endangerment of lemurs and how the Duke Lemur Center helps to contribute to research in society. We learned a lot about breeding and specifically how the center tries to focus on breeding of species that are more scarce, but try to keep ones that are less scarce, such as the ring-tailed lemur, with the rest of their family. Our DT had a lot of fun visiting both sites and noticed both sites had risks to being open to the public but felt increased education in society was worth the risk.
