Website Transformation

On our first day, Ms. Paliga asked us if we had any suggestions for the NC NOW website. We were all pretty confused when we first looked at the website because it was not super easy to navigate and had a lot of ideas for how to make the site prettier. What started out as a few ideas eventually turned into us redesigning the whole website. Seeing the transformation was probably one of our favorite parts of this experience, so we wanted to share the before and after photos of the NC NOW site. Adding to the Website

We have been working on the website and adding links to help navigate the site. For example, there are “Get Involved” and a “Featured Posts” sections that highlight how you can join NC NOW’s initiative and read about the work they are doing. Debrief and Revamp

We started our day off by watching a documentary, Equal Means Equal, which focused on the status of American women and how they are treated in today’s society. This film examined real-life stories and cases, proving current laws that claim to protect women are not implemented, therefore causing many women to come forward and push for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. Following the film, we had discussions with our instructor, Ms. Paliga, surrounding the horrific statistics of workplace harassment, domestic violence, rape and sexual assault. We then started drafting ideas on how we can spread the word regarding the Equal Rights Amendment. Which we eventually came to the conclusion of… social media!

Although NC NOW has a Facebook, we created an Instagram along with infographics to post on the page. We also noticed that NC NOW’s website hadn’t been updated in a few years, so we began to redesign the web page format to make it easier for visitors to navigate. Although it is still a work in progress, we can’t wait to see the final product!

Brainstorming Ideas

Today served as a planning day for the next two weeks. After reading about NC NOW and researching current issues that the organization is working on, we started brainstorming ways we could help. Ms. Paliga gave us brief overviews of some of the things that NC NOW is trying to focus on and then we came up with ideas to achieve those goals. Some of the current interests included Medicaid expansion in North Carolina and fighting against an anti-abortion law that is being considered.

We then met with Ms. Paliga and shared our ideas. Together, we came up with ideas for how to spread awareness and get more people involved in NC NOW’s initiative. Over the next two weeks, we plan on creating postcards for people to call legislators, writing to our own legislators, building the organization’s presence on social media, and even redesigning the NC NOW website.
