My second day at entigral was much like my first. I started the morning with a quick debrief with Mark and then continued to build a data base of the 4,000 auto dealers in North Carolina. Mark and I agreed that it made more sense to focus primarily on dealerships that sold new cars, since those are the ones that would best support his model. That decision in itself made the process a lot quicker. Instead of adding every dealership to the database I was only focusing on the 500+ new car dealerships in North Carolina. So after my meeting with Mr. Self I cracked down and started separating the used dealerships from the new ones, and then added dealers ships that sold new cars to the database. After many hours the past two days I’m about a quarter of the way done.

Day 1 – Overview of Marketing @ SAS
I started my day at 10:00 a.m. today meeting with Christie Dougherty, who works for HR at SAS. Christie gave us a tour of the building and showed us all of SAS’s amazing amenities. Once we finished our mini-tour we sat in for a “SAS Culture” presentation. The presentation basically gave an overview of the history as well as what SAS does. They explained that SAS does everything from finding the quickest/most cost-efficient route for Boston school buses to figuring out when a debit card is being used fraudulently. The presentation was really cool and went over many aspects of SAS. After the presentation we went over questions and ate lunch. A fun fact is that the building in which we ate lunch in, was the same building that was used to film in the Ironman 3 movie. Some of the SAS employees even got to be extras in the movie.
After lunch I met my mentor, Ms. Liz Hamner. Liz Hamner is a senior marketing partner. We got to know each other and went over my schedule for the rest of the week. Liz also told me about a project that she was working on with the Harvard Business Review. After meeting with Liz, I spent some time talking with Mr. Scott Batchlor, the marketing partner manager. He explained to me the “Customer Journey.” The customer journey is a diagram which they base all of their sales and marketing behind. The drawing that Scott drew is the picture above that I chose to feature in this post. The funnel on the left is what most companies use (and SAS used to use), while the diagram on the right is their new adopted “Customer Journey.” We also talked about the marketing as a whole, and the difference between B2B (business to business) vs. B2C (business to consumer). Tomorrow I am very excited to meet with many different people and discuss their specific part of marketing!
Day 1- Introduction and Information!
Today was quite the research-heavy day. This week we are at the Entigral office, a software company. The company created a software called Cartrax that puts a tag on vehicles to allow a more swift process when buying a car. This software is then used to collect data. They sell this software to car dealerships. Jonathon and I arrived at the office about 9:30 and met with Mr. Self. We began the day with a brief meeting regarding the logistics of the company. The company created a software product that has the ability to tag things and track them. This week specifically we will be working with Cartrax.
As you can see in one of the pictures, we were told about the majority of the products that the company has been successful with. After this, we were tasked to create a spreadsheet of all the car dealerships in the area and where to reach them, as you can see in the other photo. We created this spreadsheet to aid us in our phone calls to the actual car dealership tomorrow to try and sell the product.
Day 1 – The North Carolina Symphony
To say I was nervous for this day is an understatement, I hardly got any sleep last night. But I am very excited to say that my first day interning at the NC Symphony went very well. Maria Ewing, my supervisor for my time with the symphony, first took me on a tour of the office, introducing me to the other employees and familiarizing me with the other departments.
I am working as part of the Marketing and Audience Analytics Department. The Marketing Department, not only comprised of the Box Office (where most ticket sales are made), but also a team of people finding many different ways to get the various events scheduled and publicized.
The NC Symphony is also made up of the Philanthropy department which overseas donations and sponsorships. The Artistic department which works closely with the orchestra on creating the wonderful performances that the organization holds. And the Financial department which keeps everyone on track and within budgets.
My first day consisted of many hours of tech problems, getting to know my knew cubical buddy (and other supervisor, Kim Little) and spreadsheets analyzing past ticket sales and how they can be utilized for projecting this coming season’s revenues.
Needless to say, I have learned so much in my first day alone and I am very excited to continue gaining knowledge from this experience.
P.S. Everyone should check out the upcoming Summer Fest events being held a Koka Booth! Gonna be a blast and you’ll get to see me in action!!

Day 1 – Introduction to Highmark
I began my day by walking to the Highmark tower, where I was met by Lori Strilka. Lori gave me a brief tour of the two buildings I would be spending my time in; the Highmark tower (FAP) and a re-purposed department store (PAP). I will be stationed in PAP, where I have a cubicle and desk, upon which I was given some samples of products from the marketing team. I met there with Tina Satterfield, who will be my boss over the course of my week in Pittsburgh. She introduced me to many members of the team, as well as got me situated at my desk before dropping me off in the tower where I attended an orientation along with a few new hires.
I am part of the marketing team, which is dissected into two forks; client executives and marketing/branding. Client executives sell and expand for HM Health Solutions through business with clients like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming, who I will be working with next week. The team here also works with third party vendors to facilitate contracts with companies outside of Highmark.
I was also joined by about 150 summer interns on my first day today (of whom I am the youngest by about 4 years), one of which will be with me in the office on the marketing team also working for Tina. Following my orientation and lunch break, I attended meetings with Jerome and April, who helped me to better understand how the company operates, as well as their roles. I spent the rest of the afternoon completing some filing work concerning a recent convention. I am excited to continue attending meetings and completing work around the office tomorrow!
Walk West: Day One

Today was day one of the Work Experience Program. Currently, I am shadowing at Walk West (https://walkwest.com/)- a digital marketing agency located within the NC State campus. The morning started off with an all-team meeting and consisted of “saves”, “wins”, and other activities going on during the week. The meeting was a unique way to start off the morning, highlighting the positives and important moments within the office. For the remainder of the day, I did a little bit of research on projects the company is working on, as well as helped check links to a website they had launched. Throughout the week I will meet with different team members to get an idea of what they do, and how they got to where they are. Today was definitely intimidating, as I seem quite young compared to everyone else. Many times I got asked, “do you know where you’re going to college” or “do you know what area within communications you’d like to work in?”. Speaking to these people that seem to have their life figured out, my honest answer and realization was, “I literally have no clue.” While I assume that throughout the week I will get a better feel for what areas I do and do not like, I don’t think that I will come out of this program knowing exactly where my life is headed.
