Final takeaways

My experience at French West Vaughan was an insightful one. I was able to learn a lot about the PR industry, specifically within an agency. Collaboration and flexibility were two of the most important factors in the advertising space. Personally I didn’t find myself too interested in that area, but I did find an interest within the creative team where they made things such as advertisements and logos for brands. While we were only able to meet with them briefly, their job sounded interesting and fun. I plan to use my knowledge gained at FWV in the future.

Day 6: FWV

We started off the day by helping look into David Meltzer’s Ask Me Anything podcast for one of FWV’s clients. They were invited onto the show and needed help finding the right questions to ask. Afterwards, we joined in on a meeting with Sarah Bellinger and got to ask questions afterwards. In the afternoon, we met with the DEI committee on equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace. Seeing how FWV also made it a goal to be more inclusive was especially insightful too. Continue reading Day 6: FWV

Last Day: FWV

During the morning, we helped Katie find handles of reporters in hopes that they would report on one of their clients businesses. We were also give the opportunity to help try and draft an email to one of the reporters. Later, we learned a lot of valuable information from Abigail and Sarah Grace, including how agencies interact with influencers (such as how much they pay per post). Finally, we wrapped up the WEP by attending a shoot for an NCDOT advertising campaign.

Day 4: French West Vaughan

Today we joined in on a social status meeting where they discussed updates with various companies (and the government) such as Pendleton whiskey and Case Knives. For both companies, influencers were one way to reach a larger audience. They also work with the North Carolina Department of Transportation where they discussed campaigns such as Click it or Ticket and Booze it, where they work to improve traffic safety. Creating content and utilizing influencers were also a large part of this project. After this meeting, we also were able to meet with Barrie, the VP, and Ms. Best, who is the COO. We discussed and asked questions about their job and FWV in general and were able to gain many new insights.

Day 1: Company Intro Info and Internal Meetings

Today we learned about the inner workings of the company, from the way it was set up to how it runs. We sat in on internal meetings discussing planning, status updates, and client content schedules. We also asked our pressing questions about the company before breaking off into smaller groups to shadow individual team members. Everyone was super nice and answered tons of our questions!

Day 1 at FWV!

Today, we started off the morning on a Zoom call with our WEP coordinator and Social Media Manager at French West Vaughan, Alaina Ruggery- below is a picture of us all on the call! She gave us an informative overview of what our time at FWV will be like, what it’s like working there, and taught us all about the different aspects of the firm. We learned about the four different teams at French West (social, digital, account, and creative!) and what they do- later this week, the plan is for us to be able to shadow the managers/directors of each of those teams! We also learned what a RFP is (request for proposal), and how it plays a part in the process of French West Vaughan attaining clients.

Later in the afternoon, we got to individually explore the websites and socials of different French West Vaughan clients- from Pendleton Whiskey to Wrangler Network. We also got to look at different case studies and blogs from the firm. Tomorrow we plan to be able to visit the firm in person and shadow people from different teams.

Generate Design Day 2

Day 2 started off with some work for me to do. They are pre-planning and making designs for their future ads. Mr. Barth asked me if my creative writing skills were up to par, and let me write a few possible headings and blurbs for the ad they will be releasing in the next few seasons. I worked on taking the website creating and designing aspect of their company and stringing together words that make it sound appealing to the audience.

I was going to sketch out some designs for a logo project they have coming up, but Mr. Barth left the office, so until then, I was helping Tyler look for images that corresponded to his social media posts. He let me search up images on getty to download. They addressed topics such as the use of mobiles, the use of video testimonials, and others.

Final Day

Today I wasn’t scheduled for an internship so I went to the Raleigh School where I interned during the year a little to help out. She is about to start teaching summer camps so I was helping prepare for those. I helped cut paper, put up tape borders for murals, prep some clay, and prepare some paint. It wasn’t the most challenging work but it was very helpful for her which was nice. Then at 2 Ms. Gucciardi from Dragonwing had a call to discuss Facebook ads. She gave me editing permission and it was so cool to see the Business Manager side of Facebook and all the trends it tracks. It has so many graphs about gender, time, type of post etc. When it comes to specific ads you can track how many views, how many clicks, how much money you make and lost. Also it was cool to learn that you can schedule when to posts and due to the trends you can find out the ideal time to post. For the rest of the day I am going to be making more ads for Facebook and Instagram and figuring out which ones are the best. I never knew how much and how many tiny little details went into setting up and launching a promotion. It was great opportunity and I think I’ve built a long lasting professional relationship.
