French West Vaughan – Joshua Baird

There was no work day today, and our people at French West Vaughan recommended that we sign up for and attend the “Creative Morning” that was being held at the art museum from 8:30 to 10:00 this morning. Creative Mornings are held monthly, with great numbers of chapters around the world. This month’s theme is “NOW”. A lecture about creativity, the “now”, and his personal life was given by Dasan Ahanu, an award-winning poet. After giving an enlightening and inspiring speech, Dasan fielded some Q&A questions about his personal life, struggles, and creativity as a whole.

I found it very informative and interesting.

Day 4: French West Vaughan

Today we joined in on a social status meeting where they discussed updates with various companies (and the government) such as Pendleton whiskey and Case Knives. For both companies, influencers were one way to reach a larger audience. They also work with the North Carolina Department of Transportation where they discussed campaigns such as Click it or Ticket and Booze it, where they work to improve traffic safety. Creating content and utilizing influencers were also a large part of this project. After this meeting, we also were able to meet with Barrie, the VP, and Ms. Best, who is the COO. We discussed and asked questions about their job and FWV in general and were able to gain many new insights.

Day 3: French West Vaughan

Today we started off by finding some Formula 1 influencers. ABB, a client of FWV is looking for some influencers for an electric Formula 1 race they are holding in NYC, so we were tasked with finding good candidates for this program. After this, we sat in on a brainstorm session for Pendleton Whiskey, one of FWV’s largest clients. We got to hear all sorts of ideas about potential marketing strategies, giveaways, and influencer involvement. This meeting really gave us a snapshot into the creative process of coming up with a marketing campaign, and how much thinking goes into every single detail. In the afternoon, we split off into two groups. Some of us met with Colleen, a Group Account Director. Colleen gave us some insight into client relationships, degrees needed to enter the industry, deadlines, and content calendars. Tomorrow we will likely be searching for User Generated Content (UGC) on Instagram to use for the Wilmington Beaches Instagram account.

Day 2: French West Vaughan

During our second day at FWV, we sat in on meetings, met many people in a variety of fields, took headshots, and learned about the different facets of marketing/ business. The most influential part of our day was when we met with Scott Palmer (Digital Advertising) and Erin (Senior Creative Project Manager), who educated us about their respective fields and answered the many questions we had. They also showed us presentations and plans they have set up for specific businesses they work with, highlighting key information and giving us a concrete sense of what their day-to-day looks like.

Here is a picture of us during our meeting with Erin!

Day 1: Company Intro Info and Internal Meetings

Today we learned about the inner workings of the company, from the way it was set up to how it runs. We sat in on internal meetings discussing planning, status updates, and client content schedules. We also asked our pressing questions about the company before breaking off into smaller groups to shadow individual team members. Everyone was super nice and answered tons of our questions!
