Lenovo Work Experience Day 8- Sushi Lunch

Welcome back gang to the last day of the work experience! It’s been a wild ride. Really fun, too. But as all good things must come to an end given our linear understanding of time, so must the WEP end with it. And so here we are, on Sebastian Polge’s final Work Experience Program blog ever. So what did we do on this auspicious day?

Not much, actually. We went out to sushi and Spring Rolls. It was fun! I got the beef fried rice. Tasted good. It was wonderful actually meeting my host, Mr. Davis, and the rest of my peers in person though. We mostly just talked about college and plans for the future, along with some other more off-topic topics, but it was definitely enjoyable. Would do again.

Lenovo Work Experience Day 7- Penultimate Presentation Prep!

And here we are on my second-to-last day of school! How exciting. Much fun. Anyways, not too too much to say about day. We mostly worked on preparing our final presentation and condensing all our research into three slides. The slides are:

  • Intro to Blockchain – Jack
  • What are the different parts of the crypto ecosystem – Rohan
  • Use cases beyond cryptocurrency
  • NFTs – Rohan
  • Dapps – Jack
  • DAOs – Sarah
  • DeFi – Sebastian
  • Impacts on the world – Sarah
  • What does the future look like with blockchain/crypto – Sebastian

My slides are pretty cool- DeFi stands for Decentralized Finance, and is how NFTs and blockchains do transactions without a bank or other intermediary. The future obviously is about the future of blockchains. I figure I’ll elaborate a bit more in tomorrow’s post, yeah? We’re going out for sushi and finalizing our presentation there, so that should be enjoyable. It was a great work experience!

Lenovo Work Experience- Smart Contracts and Interviews, Oh My! (Day 6)

And hey, we’re back from the long weekend with some more internship stuff! Today we researched smart contracts, which are somewhat confusing and a bit too complicated for me to reasonably explain right here.

As well, we watched a video by GaryVee where he interviews 12 people related to NFTs. The two points that I want to talk about today are:

  1. He says (at 1:33:55), “DAO everybody uh who’s in the chat. There we go Sebastian, thank you.” So yeah. I had a minor heart attack there when he called out my name.
  2. The more relevant point of the two is which people he called upon. All of them seemed to be the folk that believed in NFTs before they got big, and I would love to see an interview without that confirmation bias. Are there any famous investors that didn’t believe in NFTs that missed out on the bubble? What about them?

Anyways, those are my big takeaways. Peace!

Lenovo Work Experience Day 4

Well now, here we are again for today’s late-ish work experience blog post of Doom and Despair! What fun we shall have, ladies and gents. Anyways, for the most part what I did was collect a lot of articles (that I still need to read through, for the most part) and research Cardano, Wax , and OpenSea a bit more.

So what are those three things?

  • Cardano is another market for selling NFTs. It was founded by one of the cofounders of Ethereum after he split from the company following a dispute with one of the founders over making the company for-profit (the split guy wanted it). Cardano is proof-of-stake, and uses Ada instead of Ether.
  • Wax is a different market. It uses proof-of-work and is mostly designed to be more energy efficient than Ethereum and Bitcoins, despite using Ether as well. As well, it’s targeted more at gamers through partnerships with Capcom and Atari
  • OpenSea, finally, uses Ether and proof-of-work. It’s big selling point is that it you can make items for free, though you need gas money to actually sell them.

And that’s the three markets. See you next time!

Lenovo Work Experience Day 3!

Alright, this one’s a shorter entry than usual because not much happened today. Mostly we’re gearing up for a presentation- I’ll post that PowerPoint up once we’ve finished it, but it’s about NFTs. As well, I’m working on researching a few other markets, other than OpenSea- I’ll post information about those two tomorrow. But, for not, feast your eyes on some more NFTs! These’ll be sold hopefully soon. Once I get some gas money. Anyways, see you next time!

Work Experience Program with Lenovo- Day 2

And I’m back, coming at you with another day of Lenovo work experiences! So, I figured that today I would explain to you what exactly creating an NFT entails, as well as introduce you to Howard the NFT! (currently not for sale). Anyways, to create a picture NFT, you need the picture (which we have from yesterday), along with Ethereum “gas”, an NFT wallet, and a marketplace to sell it on.

Ethereum gas, first off, is the term given to the transaction money that you spend when creating an NFT. The cost of gas changes based upon the number of transactions currently occurring on the network at the time; essentially, it helps pay for the computing power used to process the NFT.

Now then, the wallet is where all your NFT blockchains and data are stored. You need to keep this secure- I used MetaMask for this. The market is where the NFT’s are traded- I used OpenSea, because it doesn’t cost gas to create NFT’s- only to sell them. And with all of that, here he is: Howard Orphaneater himself!

Work Experience Program with Lenovo- Day 1

Alright, so this is a blog. That I am writing. Nice.

Now that that introductions out of the way, let’s start talking about what I did today with Mr. Greyson Davis and my WEP-Buddies, Sarah, Rohan, and Jack! The answer is mostly just learning about what we’re doing for the rest of the WEP. That being NFT!

Now, that begs the question for all of you less-tech-literate out there: what is NFT? Well, sit back and let me tell you. (As I act so high and mighty despite learning all of this literally a few hours prior). NFT stands for a non-fungible token, and it’s essentially a piece of media tied to a blockchain that says, “Yo! This thing is unique!” The NFT’s are then sold for prices because they’re unique. This entire thing relies entirely on the same principle as other cryptocurrencies, that being the fact that they’re only worth exactly what people are willing to pay for them.

Now, what I’ve been researching is how to create an NFT. I’m out of space for today, but enjoy a picture of the future NFT Howard!
