Today i worked some more on my podcast outlined and got ready for recording! i cant wait!
heres a picture of brian reed (creator of S-Town) talking to his producer about how to organize the legendary show! creation in its rawest form!
Today I went back to Max’s studio to watch him record with the Holderness family! you know, these guys?
apparently, they have a podcast! and its produced by Max!
so I got to sit in with their recording, who had a therapist as a special guest to talk about their kids and stuff. the episode is getting released Tuesday so watch out for that!
today I went and talked to Dr. Coven again to chat about my podcast idea more in-depth! we had a great conversation and he gave me a ton of helpful ideas. I also went with will and him to their field trip to WUNC which was super dope!
they were actually broadcasting something as we were touring! and we got to see a recording studio! all the walls were purposefully not made to be perpendicular because that reduces sound. which created these really fascinating and odd looking rooms. That was the coolest part to me, to see the attention to detail they had with sound and preventing reverb and what type of mics they used and all that cool stuff.
oh and I also refreshed (once again) this page to see if any new updates were there. Alas, nothing. better check again tomorrow!
“Thanks for driving me!” i said goodbye to my Lyft as i exited the car. I opened my phone to make sure i knew exactly where to go. i scanned the area to find the CVS. There it was. Wheres raw? There it was. confident i was in the right place i entered a small niche between the aforementioned two. 4th floor. Upon walking down a narrow hallway, checking my email once more to make sure i’m in the right place, i opened the door.
Immediately I was greeted by two buff, normally intimidating men, instantaneously they put me at ease with their chill and welcoming vibe. Then i saw the room they just walked out from. Their podcasting studio. Before this, the closest i got to seeing something like this was Mr. O’Neills office which came with microphones, mixers, pop-filters, and stands. His room was made more for singing type stuff, not sitting down and talking stuff. The room that stood before me manifested the very thing i had been trying to replicate for almost a year now: a recording studio made for podcasting. Wow! it was a small room, pushing 5 people max. The walls were lined with soundproofed foam. taking up most of the space? a table with four arms attached to microphones with windscreens. The audio engineer, Max, sat in the back corner of the table, furthest from the door, with a top of the line laptop connected to a movable monitor.
In the side of the wall was a small mini desk with a chair, almost as if its sole existence was for me to use. We sat and talked shop for a bit before the main star got there, Chef legend Bill Smith, where i got to sit in on a recording! everyone spoke eloquently and transitioned smoothly and had great rapport and it was amazing to watch. After the recording and talent was done, i got to spend to remainder of the time watching Max edit on Pro Tools, which was so cool!
Today I visited Dr. Coven at his DT! I talked with both of them about my idea for a StartUp type podcast and they were both really into it! I explained some apprehensions I had with Mr. (Dr.) Coven but he reminded me that the possibility of being bad is part of the process and documenting progress is too important than to be held back by any apprehension. So in spirit of his inspirational words, I am going to release my works into the abyss for all to see! I may update this post later with a link.
Here’s Alex Blumberg again:
Today was eventful af. I woke up and worked more on my outline for my future podcast series (i think it may be a StartUp type deal), watched some more course episodes from the podcasting god himself, and got ready for my meeting! From 12-2 I met with crushing classical podcaster Tracy Friedlander.
Ms. Friedlander has been doing podcasting for 3 years! It was really cool to talk about each of our processes and approach to the art form. I left with lots and lots of valuable advice as well as life lessons.
Today I watched more videos from that course of Alex Blumberg’s. What a guy! for those of you who don’t know, Alex Blumberg, the god of podcasting, created Gimlet media. You know Ira Glass? The second god of podcasting? He created This American Life and mentored Alex Blumberg. The Alex Blumberg. Plus Gimlet media was just bought by Spotify. Which means Alex Blumberg is rich. like his children’s children probably have a college fund set up. So this guys the real deal.
I also started work on my new podcasting venture! I am being careful not to rush the process, as the process is key. i want to make sure my outline of this is as best as can be before i start work on creating it.
anyway, heres a picture of the god himself:
