Day 7 and 8: Pitch Presentation

Yesterday I spent my time working with my mentor going over my pitch presentation. Through this, I was able to improve my presentation before having to give it today. Also, some of us came onto campus and worked together in the library to work over our individual presentations and peer review. Unlike other days there were no other meetings that we had to attend, so we could use all of our time to practice our presentation.

Today was the day of the actual presentation, and each of us talked about our different topics, with me choosing to talk about Cisco Meraki. In my actual presentation, I went through the reasons why Meraki was better than other type of products that are similar to it, as well as explain the Camera aspect of Meraki. Other people did their presentations about other Cisco products, such as Cisco Duo and Cisco WebEx.

Day 5: Leadership

One of the meetings we were in today was one talking about leadership, and how it is used in the workforce. In this meeting, we specifically learned about how we can get leadership opportunities in and outside of school, and also why it is important to think about leadership. Rachel Nusbaum, who was leading this activity is in a leadership role in her current job and has participated in leadership roles many times throughout the past couple of years making her a good person to look at when thinking about how to do leadership.

Day 4: Kahoot and Mentor Meeting

One of the things that we did today was learning about our personal brand and network. To start this meeting out we did a Kahoot which let us get a little insight into branding and networking while having fun. We then learned the importance of different types of social media and their connection to your personal brand, as generally Instagram and LinkedIn accounts are the first thing people would see when you start working.

Later on in the day, I had a one on one meeting with my mentor for this work experience, and we had a conversation about the different archetypes we’ve learned throughout the week, as well as what I would use for the pitch project that is happening next week.

Day 3: Customer Call

Today I shadowed my mentor while he was working on a customer call, which was related to the data centers information we learned on day 2. This was a very interesting experience because I was able to get insight onto what my mentor would do for his actual work. The meeting was just under 1 hour long, and the talk got very technical, and although I didn’t understand most of the conversation it was still cool to see how what we learned a day earlier was actually used.

The picture I took during the webex meeting showcases what they were working on trying to perfect in order for the sale to go through.
