Day 5/6

For both of these days, I continued to work on my research project and participate in free trials for various software platforms that offer model management programs. I’ve moved on from some of the larger companies and am now looking at smaller start-up companies. I’m continuing to record my findings and experiences as I am going through these free trials.

Day 4

Day 4 was a bit more busy than the previous ones. After my morning check-in, I listened in to various meetings. During a couple of these meetings, the model management team often went over what their plans for the day were, and what their plans were for the upcoming week/month. They also met with data scientists from State Farm regarding a project that will take place over the summer. Finally, we held a meeting with the team that designs the user interface of SAS’s model management platform.

Day Two

For my second day, I just continued researching for my model management project. I looked at several different software companies and saw what features they offered in their model management platforms. To further understand the user experience, I started a free trial with one of the companies and tried their model management platform. I took notes of what the true experience was like versus what was described on their website, and I compared the two to see if what they claimed is true.

Intro Post

Today is the first day that I shadowed with Sophia Rowland, a data scientist from SAS. After a brief introductory meeting via Teams, I was introduced to the project that I will be working on for the next two weeks.

As a software company, SAS takes data from customers and creates models from it, which can be used to deduce patterns and predict future outcomes. Under my specific placement, I will be involved with something called ModelOps, which encompasses all the processes for using, managing, monitoring, and updating models.

However, SAS isn’t the only company that does this for consumers. My job is to research SAS’s competitors and their ModelOps processes and determine the benefits and challenges of them, especially from the consumer perspective.

I spent the rest of the day researching more about the ModelOps process, what companies use it, and sat in meetings with Ms. Rowland’s team.
