Today we worked on posting action cards. Not only is NC NOW an informative organization but their initiative is to also get women involved into government and help make an impact. We first discussed House Bill 453 and how lawmakers say it will prevent discrimination when in reality it impedes on women’s existing rights to get an abortion without question. We then created an action card so people can get involved and call their NC representatives and if they don’t know what to say they have a script that can guide them. These were posted on the NC NOW’s Instagram so be sure to give it a check out at… https://www.instagram.com/northcarolinanow/

We started our day off by watching a documentary, Equal Means Equal, which focused on the status of American women and how they are treated in today’s society. This film examined real-life stories and cases, proving current laws that claim to protect women are not implemented, therefore causing many women to come forward and push for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. Following the film, we had discussions with our instructor, Ms. Paliga, surrounding the horrific statistics of workplace harassment, domestic violence, rape and sexual assault. We then started drafting ideas on how we can spread the word regarding the Equal Rights Amendment. Which we eventually came to the conclusion of… social media!
Although NC NOW has a Facebook, we created an Instagram along with infographics to post on the page. We also noticed that NC NOW’s website hadn’t been updated in a few years, so we began to redesign the web page format to make it easier for visitors to navigate. Although it is still a work in progress, we can’t wait to see the final product!
