Day 2 – Sweets and Games

Thankfully, I did not spend my entire day in front of technology. More importantly, I did not have to think about or use Amazon.

I spent the morning taking inventory of the beautiful t-shirts for EDCI’s summer camps and other programs; I even met a rising senior at Duke while doing this! As a rising senior myself (but for high school, obviously and hopefully), we had interesting discussions about our futures. I had to use Excel again, but it did not crash on me! Rebecca, who oversaw me today, felt guilty for assigning this task and promised I’d be doing cooler things next week. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

After folding, it was lunchtime. My new friend and I went over to the East Durham Bake Shop, a fairly new addition to the East Durham Neighborhood; their stuff is amazing. I had a savory pie and a blueberry muffin! EDCI workers love going there because of the distance (literally a 2-minute walk), and it’s a nice spot to get some work done!

When we returned, my friend was assigned to do some work on Excel, and I organized different games for 3rd-5th graders from the donation piles from the Holiday Drive EDCI hosted. These games are for their free time during the summer camps. There were at least 30 puzzles (do kids still play with puzzles???), ranging from 20-500 pieces, and I still have more stuff to go through tomorrow. From UNO to Legos to Candyland, I think the variety of activities I’ve found so far will keep the kids occupied. If not, I hope naptime is an option.
