Today was the second day of my shadowing and I had the great opportunity of being able to attend the OR today and see several different surgeries.
Early in the morning I met with a Thoracic surgeon who described to me the connection between sports and surgery by detailing how it is a combination of both independence and perseverance along with teamwork. I was able to see him preform an open heart surgorry in a patient who needed a mitral valve repair. This was very interesting to see as it shown end me not only the pressure and stress the surgeon undergoes but also the amount of teamwork it takes to complete such a high stakes surgery.
In the afternoon I met with a urologist who was removing a prostate from the patient using a surgical robot. This was very cool to see how they used tech and medicine together to have the best results.
