The commencement of November kickstarted the variety of winter sports here at Cary Academy. All five of our competitive options bring lots of game, meet, and match days and even more Charger spirit! With a variety of sports to choose from, there’s something for everyone, whether it’s in or out of the water, on the swim team, or on or off the court for the basketball team, there’s no denying the devotion of our winter athletes. Indoor track, Boys & Girls Basketball, Swimming, Cheerleading, and Wrestling are all options provided to Cary Academy high school students.
But the student-athlete life is not to be overlooked. Students who choose to participate in winter sports must also balance their school work with their athletic commitment. This brings exciting new challenges to our charger athletes. One student-athlete, Hudson Chang says “striving for a high standard in both basketball and my academics is a stressful balance. It requires meticulous planning and organization that is sometimes–perhaps oftentimes–a disaster in practice. However, recognizing this to be a work in progress enables me to bounce back and try again.” Another student-athlete, Gabrielle Young, remarks that she “love(s) being a part of the Cary Academy basketball team. I love the game and I love playing it with my teammates. Having an outlet from school and other factors is really important to me and basketball helps me grow as a player and person”.
We have had some very exciting achievements this winter season including some historic wins, new school records, and hall-of-fame elections! For the first time in fifteen years, our girls basketball team beat North Raleigh Christian Academy on our very own home court. In other exciting news, Aiden Rousseau has set a new Cary Academy record in rebounds on our boys basketball team with a whopping 632 rebounds and counting! But perhaps the most honorable of all, Coach Conrad Hall of the indoor track and field and cross country teams has been elected into the class of 2025 North Carolina High School Hall of Fame!! Congratulations to all of our winter athletes; we applaud your hard work and sportsmanship.
As we look forward to warmer weather and longer days, the bitter-sweet closing to our 2024-2025 winter sports at Cary Academy defrosts the new beginnings of our variety of spring sports provided to students; we can’t wait to see what the future holds for our spring athletics!
