Anyone who’s driven on American roads can attest that bumper stickers are a ubiquitous feature of the country’s landscape. In a 2,000 person survey conducted in 2017, drivers across the country were given an opportunity to voice their opinions on bumper stickers, yielding some interesting results. College/Alma mater stickers reigned supreme throughout the South, while bumper stickers communicating political affiliations were found to have the highest presence in California. Strikingly, bumper stickers in this survey were found to be much more commonplace in the South, with about 60-68% of Southern drivers donning bumper stickers, whereas in the Eastern Midwest, only about 40% of drivers used bumper stickers.
In addition to the proliferation of blue and yellow charger iconography decorating the cars in the senior lot, a walk through the Cary Academy parking lot surely has brought notice to the assortment of bumper stickers arranged on the backs of students’ cars. From testaments to a driver’s novice status (please be patient- student driver!) to political slogans and philosophical statements, there is great diversity among what CA students choose to broadcast on the road.
