Cary Academy’s fall athletes began their seasons before the school year even kicked off. The August sun was still sweltering, but players worked hard from the start. By season’s end they all had given strong showings both in the TISAC Conference and at the state level.

Keeping with their record of excellence, the Charger Field Hockey team had another great season. Notable wins included a 10-0 victory over Jordan High School, a 5-1 win over Saint Mary’s and a 5-0 defeat of Ravenscroft in the first round of the NCISAA playoffs. This record included important wins over Saint Mary’s, North Raleigh Christian, Wake Christian, and a win in the first round of the NCISAA tournament over Ravenscroft. Tennis will only lose one senior next year (Lauren Hsu), and will come back strong with majority of their players being underclassmen. All-Conference players included Sydney Tai (’22) and Georgia Moorhead (’21). Look out for a power-packed Charger tennis squad in coming years.

With a new head coach, Richard Huxford, the Boys Soccer team was ready to take the field. Players honored for their exemplary play by TISAC coaches throughout the season include Jackson Newnam (’21), Koa Kaliebe (’21), Henry Lee (’21). The boys soccer team is poised to be back and better than ever next year as the program continues to grow.

The Girls Golf team had another strong season. There were many close calls with single stroke losses to NRCA two times. Team captains Emma Brown and Mesha Mumford spoke at the banquet for the team, noting the strong bond they shared and the fun they had throughout their season.

It was a hot fall season for the Varsity Cross Country team. Hundred degree temps meant early wake times as the runners arrived to CA at 6am on select days to get their morning practices in. With this hard work came great success and the cross country teams had another strong season. Runners Jenna Pullen (’23), Thuc Dzu (’21), Keeley Murphy (’20), David Go (’20), Xavier DeSouza (’21), and Kenny Eheman (’21) were honored at the conference and state levels for their performances at end-of-season meets.
